GENE is slow in coming yet his intensity remains the same 200km/hr inside, 150 km outside.
It appears he is now 50 km east of Mare heading toward I'lles Des Pins.
Not expected to reach N.Cal. before Saturday sometime. Noumea may be north of Gene's direct path, yet the eye of the storm is as large as New Caledonia from what I see on the weather reports. Time will tell!

Hi David,
Thanks for the up date. I've been watching GENE online, but not much is said about it's course. Just the damage it's already done.
Did you get Alana to come home?? Hope so, it's always easier to go through a storm with family together.
We wish you to be safe.
Elaine
Hello David,
I hope all will be well with you and your family. I'm following Cyclone Gene as well. My in-laws live in 6eme Km, near the Magenta Bazzar discount store. I always wondered why the built their home with those white roll up doors on their windows. I now know why.
We will pray for your safe keeping.
BTW-I saw one of your photos with your car temperature gauge at 41 degrees. I could have swore that was a picture from our car. My wife and I were in Noumea from 12/14/07-1/14/08. It was hoooottt and huuuuumid.
Take Care,
Mike Matsuzaki
Thanks for your posting, David.
have a good weekend
Hello all, yes Elaine Alana came home early Thursday, on my recommendation.
Mike, I also live in Magenta only a few kms. from the roundabout near the bazzar.
Wow,
My In-laws live across the street from the Tahiti Star store. Their umarked long driveway is between a bridge with green railings and a gray concrete wall as you head towards that roundabout. What a small world.
It's good to hear that things are looking better, except for the wind and rain. I guess that's better than the heat.
Take care and Aloha,
Mike Matsuzaki
We will be at the bazzar this afternoon, to return a blender (they don't make things like they used to). I will slow down and look your in-laws direction on the way.
By the way..I have yet to experience it too hot for me!
